We started off our weekend on Friday night with our bi-weekly trip to Sam's Wholesale where we purchased 6 gallons of soy milk (see what I mean about buying stock!?!??!) and another case of diapers. This will last us 2 weeks. And of course since we are there, we have to buy a few other things and then cap off the night with a hot dog combo meal at the snack bar. Those hot dogs are the one thing we can GUARANTEE that the boys will devour. And true to form they did.
Saturday we threw the boys in the car as soon as they got up and headed to see our friend Scott. He is a friend of Leanne's from her former housing days and was in town for a trip with his students. We had a nice (well, as nice as a meal can be with toddlers) breakfast with him and then let the boys run around a relatively empty space in the lobby. They lasted a lot longer than I expected before they started to try to take off and run all over the place. At that point, we packed up and headed home. We expected that they would pass out immediately in the car since they'd filled their bellies with french toast, grapes, and cheerios and they'd run non stop for 45 minutes. But of course, they didn't show any signs of being tired until we were 10 minutes from home. So, I did the wrong thing and kept them awake. Of course, then when we tried to get them down, Carter had gotten his second wind - and our child who doesn't mind napping - would not nap. Oh well.
After lunch, we went to the Ashton Methodist Church's fall festival. Everything was geared for younger kids and there weren't that many people there. The kids got to:
Play in a toddler sized hay maze:

Play in a kiddie pool of dried corn:

Eat a mini pumpkin:

Jump in the moon bounce:

and tried to take a family photo :):

Afterwards we stopped at the grocery store and tried out their 2 seater carts (normally we each get a cart and a baby.) But we wanted to test out how they would sit in this so we could take them to the store ourselves if needed. The did pretty well. Grayson likes sitting so he can see everything (when he is in the cart, he is always turning around to see where he is going.) But by the end of the trip, they were over it (and it wasn't a long visit....)

Saturday evening, we headed to the Annapolis Mall for dinner and to let the kids play on the indoor playground. The mall just got all new equipment, which is great - but it are those darn big kids again. The rules say that the playground is for kids 42" and under. Our kids are around 30" - so it really is for younger kids. And yet there were kids that were 10-11 years old - and clearly closer to 60"! Some of them I could nearly look at eye to eye. And they weren't just walking around. No. They were playing a game of tag or something while dodging toddlers. After a few minutes, we put our protesting children back in their strollers and called it a night.
Sunday, we got decent naps out of them in the morning (before which Grayson pulled a book down on his face and busted his lip (damn, mouths bleed a lot!) - went to lunch and then back to the store (yes, another grocery store) before heading to a picnic/BBQ being held by friends of ours. We ended up hanging out no where near the party since our kids were attracted to the hot grills like bees to honey. Plus, they found a cool vestibule that echoed when they screamed and had stairs that they could crawl up and down. This occupied them for at least 45 minutes. :)
...and since I post so much about sleeping - we've slept through the night 4 nights in a row. Well, they've slept 4 nights in a row. I am still waking in the middle of the night to the car alarms going off in the neighborhood, our cats chasing each other around the house, the feral cat screaming outside, Abbey snoring.... You get the idea. But it is still better than convincing a toddler to go back to sleep at 2am, 3:34am, 5:01am.... :)
