Yesterday was one of those days. If someone who was waffling between having kids and being childfree had been with us, there would be one less kid in the world. From start to finish, yesterday was havoc. All was fine till they woke from their morning nap. It was totally our fault - but Carter fell and cut his chin on the ladder we'd folded up and lay on its side. We didn't think there were any sharp corners, but we were wrong and our little bruiser, got a huge gash. It didn't require stitches, but it did require some to pin him down to hold pressure on it for a long time. He wasn't too keen on that and wiggled and cried, while Leanne and I sang countless versions of "Wheels on the Bus", "BINGO", and "Old MacDonald." Wondering what the commotion was all about, Grayson kept trying to climb over us to get to Carter and see why he was upset. Sounds sweet, huh? When he did get to him, he tried to gouge his eyeballs. Nice.
We got everyone loaded into the car and went to a playgroup with some friends and their babies. It was a pool party for the kids, except our kids (well, namely, Grayson) didn't want to get in the water. The kid doesn't mind bath time, but try to sit him in water that isn't nice and warm (and for the record the water wasn't that cold - and it was hot out) and he freaks. He spend most of the time clinging to Leanne. When we finally did get everyone inside, we spend most of the time chasing our guys around - trying to keep them from climbing the stairs, from getting in the trash, and from chewing on peoples shoes. And when I looked around, all of the other kids were sitting with their moms, playing with toys, and eating snacks, while the moms chatted. Hmmm....
About the point of major meltdown, we loaded everyone back in the van and decided to go get an early dinner (since the boys hadn't eaten a good lunch) and get some things at Whole Foods for our picnic on today. When we got to our destination, we realized we'd left our diaper bag at the playgroup. 45 minutes away. With our digital camera in it. With the boys shoes in it. And no way to get in touch with our hosts. Oy.
Our meal at Eggspectations was..umm...not fun. With the exception of Grayson finding that the pancakes there were DELICIOUS, it was a pretty miserable meal. Leanne and I tried to scarf down our salads in between trying to entertain the boys, picking up every utensil off the floor - at least twice, and shoving food in their mouths to 1) actually get them to eat and 2) keep them quiet. To add insult to injury, we paid $45 for 2 salads (there were good - but not THAT good) and 3 pancakes with a banana cut up on it. Plus, we didn't even get to enjoy the meal. *sigh*
Once we got home, things did improve. The boys were happy playing around upstairs and went to bed easily - that is until Grayson woke at 12:30am screaming and I ended up sleeping with him in the guest bed. But that is for another post. :)
