Another busy (and sometimes harrowing) weekend!

Friday we took the boys to our first preschool open house. Who knew that you have to start looking at preschools 10 months before they would start? Well, in DC (ok, the DC ‘burbs) you do. Right now we are concentrating on co-op preschools. Co-op schools are parent run. They have a teacher, but the Board of Directors are all parents and the parents are the ones who make the decisions and run the school through a series of committees for the school. Aside from being required to be on the Board or on a committee, every family has to rotate as the classroom helper. We really like this concept as we’d get a say in how things are being done in the school (we believe in lots of parental involvement), we like the idea of really knowing what our kids are doing in school, and we like the community aspect of it. In addition, it is less expensive than traditional preschools and since we'll have to continue to employee Mia (preschool is only 3 hours 3 days a week.)

That afternoon, the boys went to Rhyder's birthday party. They had a blast playing (ahem, destroying) Rhyder's room, eating cupcakes and playing with the other guests.

Saturday morning we hung out in bed and let the kids watch an hour of tv while we lazed/dozed. Went to Target and then to Gymboree. The kids slept like they haven't slept in a long time (I woke them after 3.5 hours! Typically we don't let them sleep more than 2.5 but I fell asleep too!) After we delivered a pot roast to a couple in Baltimore who just had twins (they were sooooo small and cute.) we took the kids to Inner Harbor where the kids ate their weight in rice at Chipotle and played for a long time at the train table at Barnes and Noble. They got to bed late and were exhausted.

Sunday (Grayson slept in his bed till 5:30am!! First time in 18m!) Of course once he woke at 5:30 he didn't go back to sleep. Carter slept till 7 (the latest he has slept in months, of course.) We went to the grocery store and on the way home both fell asleep. Since it was 90 minutes before their nap time - and Grayson rarely transfers from the car to his bed without waking, we decided to go to wake them, go to lunch, and play outside for a bit before nap. Big mistake.

It was a no go. I tried for an hour. Finally gave up, took them to the playground and to play in the yard. Leanne was still feeling sick (she has bronchitis/pneumonia), so she was upstairs and not being subjected to the, "It's MIIIIIIIINE Carter. NO!" Over and over and over. I thought my head was going to pop off my head. After playing inside for awhile, I broke my no tv during the day and turned on a movie. It was blissfully peaceful for 20 minutes. Then hell broke loose again when Carter tried to play with whatever Grayson was playing with. Leanne woke up and we threw them in the bathtub to play. They watched an hour of Caillou and were asleep by 7. Of course Gray woke at 8 with what we think was a sore throat and spent the night in our bed - but at least there was no whining.
