At the beginning of April, we went to Tennessee to visit Nana and Granddaddy, aunts/uncles, and cousins (including 2 new ones!) We had a really nice and calm flight down there thanks to the video iPods. Now that everyone has their own iPod (well, we have 2 – one for each kid!) Leanne and I actually got the chance to read and rest on the plane. The kids were enthralled in watching Caillou, Signing Time, and Mickey Mouse. It was almost like old times on the plane. We didn't have to be a constant source of entertainment and got some relaxation in!
Once we landed, we met Nana and Grandaddy at Cracker Barrel. The kids were so excited to eat biscuits and jelly – really, we need to stop ordering them food when we go there – all they want are biscuits! After lunch, we headed to Lannie and Jeff’s house to see everyone and meet baby Laiken. The kids were more thrilled with going up and down the stairs than they were with the baby! Once the kids had run off some energy, we headed to Nana and Granddaddy’s (after the much needed Wal-Mart stop.)
On Saturday morning we hit the local playground (the kids loved it!) and then went to Bell Buckle, TN. Don’t worry, I’d never heard of it either! It is a teeny town with a cute little strip mall with a really yummy southern cooking restaurant (and lots of cute (but not kid friendly) shops.) But the best thing according to the kids was the train they could climb on and the 3 REAL LIVE trains that went rumbling past us! They were a bit shocked by the first one – but by the third train, they were thrilled.
On Sunday we woke to a sick, lethargic Grayson. Go figure. Someone gets sick on every one of our trips. Seriously, if you read back, you’ll notice that Providence, Dutch Wonderland, Disney…check, check, check. Anyway, he slept almost all day and ate next to nothing. We took them to visit with Pop, Leanne’s grandfather and while Carter played on the floor, Grayson slept in Leanne’s arms. Around 5pm, he magically popped up and seemed okay. He even went to the playground and ran around like a mad man.
But come Monday morning, he was bad again. Fever, sleeping all the time, not himself. Around noon, we decided to take him to the walk in clinic to be seen. We figured he had an ear infection and needed some antibiotics to kick it and make him feel better for the plane ride home. Well, after a 2.5 hour wait (and still not being seen), Leanne’s sister was able to get us in at the doctor’s office where she used to work. They took us through the back entrance and the doctor deemed that he “looked sick” and that his ears were red. Thirty minutes later we were out with a prescription. Evidently, it only takes one dose of an antibiotic and a 5 minute look over from the doctor to get well. Two hours after we got home from the doctor, all of Leanne’s family came to Nana and Grandaddy’s house and Grayson was running around with his cousins having a ball and joined Cater in blowing out candles on their birthday cake.
We headed home Tueday. It was an easy flight (thank you iPods!) and while we all had a great time – the kids were thrilled to be back home. Carter was running around like a mad man and refused to go to bed that night!
